Having returned to racing in exceptional form this time in, Lucia Valentina has opened as and maintained status as outright favourite in Caulfield Cup betting markets and is currently available odds of $3.80 for success ahead of Admire Rakti, Lidari and Brambles; currently sharing the second line at generous $9.50 odds at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Will Lucia Valentina justify favouritism and win the 2014 Caulfield Cup, or will one of her many classy rivals find the line in the clear?

Brambles ($9.50)

Securing a total of six race wins and a further six minor places over his 17 start career to date, Brambles has found scintillating form leading into the 2014 Caulfield Cup and offers punters great value for money at current $9.50 odds. Spending nearly two years in the paddock with a tendon injury after winning the 2012 edition of the Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m), the Savabeel gelding ran a disappointing eighth in the Group 2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m) on August 16th but has responded well in finishing second in the Listed Thoroughbred Bloodstock Stakes (1700m), winning the Spring Is The Season Handicap (1700m) and finishing third in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) last time out. Allocated an ideal barrier and confirmed to be partnered by renowned jockey Luke Nolen, all signs seem to point towards another Group 1 victory for Brambles in the 2014 Caulfield Cup.

Hawkspur ($19)

A Group 1 winner having taken out the 2013 edition of the Queensland Derby, Hawkspur has found strong form over the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, has been allocated an ideal barrier, will be partnered by champion jockey Damien Oliver as is more than worth consideration for a Caulfield Cup bet at current $19 to win or $5.40 to run a place. Securing a good total of eight wins and seven minors from his 34 appearances on course so far, the Purrealist gelding won the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) on September 6th before finishing a credible fourth in the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) on September 20th. While unlucky to be blocked for a run in the Turnbull Stakes last time out, trainer Chris Waller has been thrilled with the work put in by Hawkspur over the last fortnight, who figures as a dark-horse chance of success in the 2014 Caulfield Cup.

Lucia Valentina ($3.80)

Returning to racing in career-best form this year, Lucia Valentina has maintained favouritism in betting markets for success in the 2014 Caulfield Cup all week and currently features as clear market mover at $3.80 odds. winning the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) most notably over autumn, the daughter of Savabeel charged home to win the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) first-up this time, and while unlucky to be blocked for a run in the final straight of the George Main Stakes, will carry winning form into the Caulfield Cup after taking out the Turnbull Stakes last time out.
